Instagram can be such a boon in terms of meeting other people with disabilities &

growing my community. Recently, I've gotten to know about a beautiful soul named Emily. Few weeks back, we even did a livestream together! (Click Here to check it out.) Throughout the livestream or even by looking at her IG, you can not tell that she has Porphyria, which is pretty much an invisible illness. (Which means she has to deal with a lot that could not be very obvious to society.) Let me walk you through on what it is.
Biology
Porphyria is a genetic disorder caused by the buildup of porphyrin. This chemical compound is crucial in the binding of haemoglobin to iron which ultimately transports oxygen throughout the body. (You need O2 for most of the body's reactions.) So, a lack of this O2 and a buildup of porphyrin will affect your overall body!
Affect

Porphyria has many types (CLICK HERE if you wanna read about it) and depending on the specific type, there are dedicated symptoms. But, some complications that are common to all are
Coma
Gallstones
Paralysis
Skin Scarring
Respiratory Failure
Liver Disease/Failure
